My blog sucked…
I feel really happy today because I finally launched a first version of the official pro Your Life Your Choices blog!
It was not scheduled to happen today and it happened by chance. Early this afternoon, I visited my Weebly blog and I was shocked to see that there was nothing in my URL. It was a terrible surprise for me. I tried to access on my Weebly account to figure out what actually was the problem but I could not either access the account.
I stayed calme and I decided to send an email to the weebly support Help Desk to ask for help.
Fortunately they answered very quickly but. …Unfortunately their answer was the following:
Hi Lenia,
Your account was in violation of our Terms of Service. So your site was shut down and your account was disabled. Sorry this happened out of the blue. The ban cannot be reversed.

Oh my God, what a shock!
I don’t know about what they are talking about and I feel like stupid because obviously I did something wrong but not in purpose. I provoked them to shut down my website!
I then visited their TOS site to check out what serious mistake I could possibly have done without my knowledge! Here is what I found:
From this list I assume that the only thing I could have done without paying any attention is the excessive advertising => put more than three banners in a page.
Anyway, the whole Weebly thing was a bad decision form the beginning. But I am terribly surprised because they just shut down the site without telling me anything!
But…Your Life Your Choices is still alive! Yeah!!
Besides the above bad story that happened to my blog, I feel really lucky. As I have recently explained in my article My adventure in Greece, I was working to move my blog from Weebly to a self-hosted WordPress Solution. I started the whole process of manually copying and pasting my posts and comments at the beginning of February. Early this week, I moved one of the last posts I have written and I wanted to keep making some changes to the look of the site.
Well, I didn’t have time to make the changes because today I was obliged to switch from the test platform to the production platform!
Can you believe it? I just saved all my content by chance.
It is unbelievable!
I wanted to share with you that story and welcome you to the new face of Your Life Your Choices.
I also wanted to say sorry to Hiten mainly because I lost the comment he left on my old site yesterday. After what happened today I didn’t have the time to save, restore and publish his comment on this site.

Thanks for commenting over at my blog. Your post reminded me of certain books I’ve bought in the past. I bought them based upon the good reputation of the author. However, once I started to read them, they were such a pain to read! Some books are like that. They can be difficult to read and/or we just can’t get into them. I usually end up leaving such books and then moving onto others.

I LOVE the new look Lenia and I’m so sorry for what you had to go through. This is the reason I tell people when you have a free blog, you don’t own your content so they can delete your blog without notice and there isn’t one thing you can do about it.
This way, this is your blog and your content. Which is another reason you should approve comments you want on your blog and from who you want. I look at it like my home. Who would you like to invite to your home to stay for a chat.
You’ve done a wonderful job so look at this as a brand new start.

Actually, what happened today made me publish earlier this new site. It was just the good timing but I was really lucky because things could be worse.

I love the new blog theme!
It looks great.
I know the pains and problems that go with switching blog platforms. I used to use TypePad to host my blog. However, I was so restricted by what I could do with it in terms of design and widgets, I decided to change to self-hosted WordPress. It was bit difficult making the switch as all the blog posts got imported, but the images didn’t. So I had to put in the images again manually into the posts in WordPress.
I’m so glad I changed though!
I hope you enjoy your new theme and the flexibility it gives. As Adrienne mentioned, you now have total control over your content.

I totally agree about the restrictions of other solutions. I am really excited because WP gives so many possibilities. At the beginning I though that it was too difficult for me to learn how to use WP. But that was a mistake and I learnt many things since then. I think I lost a lot of time because I initially took a wrong decision. But that is life. We always say that we learn from our mistakes. That was exactly my situation!

sorry to hear about your old site. But you are one lucky woman. You accidentally saved all of your posts and content. wow. How horrible and depressing it would have been to lose it all. I’m so glad for you.

I appreciate it a lot. Yes, I feel really lucky. It was just the good timing that the whole accident happened. Two weeks ago it would be a disaster!
As far as the future of this blog, I have many ideas:
My goal is to provide advice for people who wants to organize a round-the-world trip, to talk about books that can change people’s life and provide a review or their summary.
I also write some posts about how we can get motivated to take some serious decisions and act in order to change our life. I will definitely write and share my experience and my adventure in Greece hoping to give ideas and tips to other people to start their adventure and follow their passions.
I am currently building my own company in Greece and my goal is to work part time on this blog too. I want to live on Chios Island, in Greece and work online.
I hope that gives you an idea of the future.

I never heard of weebly – but it looks as if maybe you are getting ready to switch to wordpress? You really should because I love it and have been making a series of videos on how to install wordpress, themes and pictures as part of a video blog challenge. I guess it all depends on your hosting provider and what they have to offer.
So sorry that they shut you down for advertising, that really rots! When you get your own version of wordpress you can do whatever you want with it and depending on who you host your website with with depend on how easy it is to convert.
Good luck with deciding whether to stay or make the move.

To answer to your question, weebly is a solution where you can easily build a website or blog for free. It is much less ergonomic solution that wordpress. You don’t have the possibility to install plugins or widgets, it is less user friendly and definitely less search engines friendly.
On the other hand when you are a newbie it seems to be less difficult to deal with weebly than with wordpress.
But, as Adrienne mentions, it is not a self hosted solution so this is dangerous for your content.
I have recently discovered that the fact that they shut down my old site was by mistake!!!
Anyway, for me it was a great opportunity to switch on wordpress. So what you see here is the new version of Your Life Your Choices blog.

I totally love the new site! I love the layout and simplicity of the template design.
I must admit I have never heard of Weebly. I am go glad that you got all of your content transferred over before they shut your old site down, that would have been terrible losing all of your hard work. Thankfully that didn’t happen.
Great to hear that you are now on WordPress. Again love the look and feel of the new site. I know you will do great things going forward.

Hi Lenia,
smart move changing to WP – I did something very similar to you – I was on Google Sites for a while (I’d also tried Weebly very briefly) and then switched over to WordPress – though the switch wasn’t as forced in my case – it was because getting comments on a Google Sites website is way too complex (or at least it was, not sure if they’ve sorted that out yet).
Anyways, there is no beating WordPress – which is probably why most of the top sites use it – especially ‘bloggers’.
Your site looks awesome – what theme is it out of interest?

I haven’t tried Google Sites but I am really happy for my decision to switch on wordpress. I totally agree with you that WP is no beating. It gives so many possibilities. Actually I didn’t know the world of blogging since December 2011 where I built Your life your Choices. I think that not going on line with WP at first place was one of the biggest mistakes i made. But I believe that we learn from our mistakes and here is the proof

Off course most bloggers talk about thesis which is also really flexible and good but I wanted to try something different and test my ability to code!
